salutations and thanks! von trier is one of the most ambitious yet subtle directors working today. it is my hope that this film may net him a larger audience in the united states.

it is interesting to note that von trier is meandering from his own conventions. while his past films have starred female a-list celebrities in starring roles (nicole kidman in Dogville, bryce dallas howard in Manderlay, björk in Dancer in the Dark), now he seems to have cast a relative unknown as lead actress while the always-electric Willem Dafoe tops the marquee. perhaps he is shirking his own status quo in order to avoid his own self-commercialization. very intriguing.

    thank you for posting this!

Maybe he likes men now; you can stop jerking off to him on a worthless blog and start jerking off on his naked chest. Lucky you.

wow. i was just trying to make conversation about a compelling film from a compelling filmmaker. while i certainly don’t agree with all of his aesthetic choices, his unapologetic candor has inspired my filmmaking.

either way, i don’t need to qualify my respect for him to you.

This is something that really happened. You probably read about it in the papers. A boy. His father. A hacksaw. A box of body parts. Three days of torture. Urban legend becomes cinematic thriller becomes eerie foreshadowing.
